Organizations) was established in 1997 and registered under the
Company Act as a Research and Development consultancy firm. Since
then, TAABCO has been providing professional development and management
support to public, and private sector, and civil society to enhance
their capacities to effectively deliver services and manage change.
The firm is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with clients both in Kenya
and the wider region.
Dr. Agnes Abuom - Executive Director
TAABCO envisages strengthened government, civil society,
faith-based and private sector organizations, working towards the
attainment of a just, participatory and sustainable society.
Our mission is to provide quality
research and consultancy services to development and private sector
organizations in managing change processes.
TAABCO's aim is to build and strengthen
management capacities of client organizations and agencies to manage
their own resources, and provide services to their members more
effectively and efficiently. Through its interventions, TAABCO seeks
to improve client's problem-solving and change management processes,
particularly via a more effective and collaborative management culture,
utilizing up-to-date management theory and technology of applied
and behavioural science, including action oriented research.
The firm is committed to the following values:
-
Providing quality consultancy services.
-
Empowering agencies, communities and/or,
organizations in the management and ownership of their resources
and development processes.
-
Facilitating proper stewardship
as well as accountability within itself and its clients; and
Promoting a just, participatory and sustainable society.
Allan Kaplan's words aptly encapsulate
TAABCO's confidence in the potential inherent within organizations.
In 1996 he wrote:“Civil Society in the form of a multitude of vibrant
and variegated organizations can continue the process of development
towards integration, towards a more conscious society and a more
conscious individual, capable of redressing division and imbalance,
experimenting with new forms of meaning, crating new productive
structures and possibilities..” We believe that people, in various
forms of organization, can exercise more control over the decisions
and resources that affect the quality of their lives. This is the
premise upon which our organization strengthening interventions
are hinged.
TAABCO fully embraces the concept
of empowerment as the ultimate objective of development initiatives.
Thus, while we regularly employ the popular Strategic Planning,
Budgeting, Monitoring methodologies, we do so consciously, with
full appreciation to the potential to alienate and disempower that
is inherent in these scientific models. Recognizing the potential
damage that purely expert interventions can cause., and the highrate
of failure of such approaches, at TAABCO, we have designed and developed
an approach that is developmental. Our approach recognizes the complexity
of organizations. We also recognize the interdependence as well
as the interrelationships between the various elements that constitute
an organization.
Client organizations often request
for purely expert interventions. Our approach to such requests is
that they present an opportunity. We seize this opportunity to treating
such assignments as an entry point for development methodologies.Organizations
themselves, and the environment in which they operate, undergo continuous
change. These are indeed turbulent times. In recognition of this,
TAABCO's interventions have, as a key objective, the facilitation
of organizations in managing change. Our approach is informed by
the changing paradigms of organization development consultancy and
consists of ten basic components:
