TAABCO APPROACH TO THE STRENGTHENING OF ORGANIZATIONS

Allan Kaplan's words aptly encapsulate TAABCO's confidence in the potential inherent within organizations. In 1996 he wrote:“Civil Society in the form of a multitude of vibrant and variegated organizations can continue the process of development towards integration, towards a more conscious society and a more conscious individual, capable of redressing division and imbalance, experimenting with new forms of meaning, crating new productive structures and possibilities..” We believe that people, in various forms of organization, can exercise more control over the decisions and resources that affect the quality of their lives. This is the premise upon which our organization strengthening interventions are hinged.

TAABCO fully embraces the concept of empowerment as the ultimate objective of development initiatives. Thus, while we regularly employ the popular Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring methodologies, we do so consciously, with full appreciation to the potential to alienate and disempower that is inherent in these scientific models. Recognizing the potential damage that purely expert interventions can cause., and the highrate of failure of such approaches, at TAABCO, we have designed and developed an approach that is developmental. Our approach recognizes the complexity of organizations. We also recognize the interdependence as well as the interrelationships between the various elements that constitute an organization.

Client organizations often request for purely expert interventions. Our approach to such requests is that they present an opportunity. We seize this opportunity to treating such assignments as an entry point for development methodologies.Organizations themselves, and the environment in which they operate, undergo continuous change. These are indeed turbulent times. In recognition of this, TAABCO's interventions have, as a key objective, the facilitation of organizations in managing change. Our approach is informed by the changing paradigms of organization development consultancy and consists of ten basic components:
