Development organisations need to
be familiar with a broad range of organisational strengthening skills
to be effective in their work. The course will examine how to assess
organisational strengths and weaknesses, and look at the structure
and culture of development organisations. In this vein, we will
discuss capacity building, and managing organisational change efforts
in development.
Organisational leaders, project directors,
managers, particularly human resource managers and programme officers.
By the end of this course, participants will be able
to:-
- Explore their roles as change agents and review
their understanding of the OD interventions.
- Assess the links between OD and capacity building
and explore the use of OD in NGO partnerships.
- Examine Organisational Assessment as a specific
OD process.
- Assess the particular challenges of monitoring
and evaluating OD work.
The course will examine the use of
OD as a tool in maximising an organisations outcome in the development
arena. A total systems approach of OD as well as a look at elements
relating to the ‘Doing, the Being and the Relating' within the dynamics
and functioning of an organization will be undertaken.

Participants will examine a case study
and consider the relevant OD issues comparing those which might
exist within their organizations. There will also be presentations
of existing theories and OD development. Participants shall then
use the external scans to assess their organisations and define
strategies to address challenges noted.
